Shaping SF

Shaping SF

“Shaping SF” has its San Francisco Premiere at the Roxie Theater

Shaping SF is a short doc that examines the relationship between surfer, craftsman, and the local breaks. San Francisco’s Ocean Beach is a cold water, open ocean beach break known for a challenging paddle out and big winter swells. Located an hour and a half north of the world famous Mavericks, Ocean Beach’s forbidding and occasionally perfect waves have sprouted a healthy shaping community. We talk with local shapers, surfers, and get an eyeful of Ocean Beach’s worldclass eaves; all of which is accompanied by a rockin’ soundtrack by The Soft White Sixties and Flotation Device. As major markets have become saturated with cheap and soulless boards from overseas, Shaping SF illuminates an ancient craft alive and well miles and years from its origin.

Featuring James Mitchell of Sunset Shapers, Kevin Seid of Everpaddle and George Orbelian, author of “Essential Surfing” and Surfer Magazine contributor.

Shaping SF will be shown during the 9th Annual San Francisco Frozen Festival: Roxie Theater, 3117 16th Street, San Francisco, CA
